"To keep our club members better informed"

15 December 2002
Vol 1 - Issue 2

Dear Parents

Hi, my name is Colin Moffatt.  As you may have heard I am going to be the new head coach at Cochran’s this year and I thought I would take this time to introduce myself and talk about my goals for the upcoming season. I would prefer to do this in person but am currently finishing a semester of school in Colorado and will not be home until close to the beginning of the season.

Rope Tow Help Needed!

Would you like to see the rope tow running more often? Sometimes all we need is an extra set of eyes to supervise its operation. When the rope is running, the number of training runs increases dramatically. Even an hour of your time can make a big difference. See or e-mail  Colin Moffatt, Head Coach, to volunteer.

Cochran's Welcomes New Season

As Cochran’s Ski Area enters the 2002/03 season, the area is once again proving the axiom that the more things change, the more things stay the same.

On the change side of the equation, Cochran’s has announced the hiring of Hannah Conant as the new lodge and business manager. Conant, a Richmond native who grew up skiing and racing at Cochran’s, will assume the role filled by Ginny Cochran for the past 41 years.

Ski Sale Wrap-Up

The results of the 2002 Cochran Ski Sale: Success. Although the final details are still being worked out, we can report our second highest gross sales total ever! Our Ski Club is in healthy financial shape for the 2002/2003 season.

Our Ski Sale is so large that it is hard to fix a view on all the work that surrounds that first weekend in November. With the enormity of the event in mind, I would like to thank a number of individuals who helped with the planning, execution, and follow up.

News from Coach Jen  newspin.gif (8666 bytes)

Dear Cochran's Club members:

This past weekend was an amazing weekend all around for Cochran's area. A group of 18 racers and several families traveled to Okemo for a VARA fundraising race. All of the Cochran racers had great runs, and a great time. This was highlighted by our new coach Joe Cutts having the fastest run on the mountain!!!

Cochran's was open on Saturday, and although it was raining several families came and had a great time. The first run of the 2002-2003 season was made by Clara Slezar (5 year old)! If you happen to meet Clara, congratulate her!

On Sunday lots of folks came by, We had a big air contest-Nathan Petter and Ryan Siegle battled out for distance, but eventually Nathan won, travelling 18.5 feet from the base of that jump on the mighty-might (well, yes, he did hike part way up the face...). We had a lollipop race which was a blast.

Hats off go to racers who came by to train. We jumped, worked on lots of balance and mostly had lots of fun...(thank you Ryan Siegle, Caitlin Siegle, James Kelley, Leif, Uli Botzojorns, Nathan Petter, Will Hibbs, Grace Cutts, Jen Carp, Dan Paquette and there were several others whom I am forgetting (I do not have my list with me).

Colin (our head coach) is returning from Colorado on Saturday. He will be driving the whole way... and he will be exhausted.... please give him a warm welcome. Colin may need a place to stay for a few days/weeks. Does anyone have or know of a potential place for rental if he needs ? Let me know via email, and I can share with him on Saturday.

Hope to see you all vacation week!

Jen Botzojorns
